Hot Selling Heme Baby Q Transparent Puff - The New MakeUp Blender

One thing I dont like about using BB cushion is that I find dabbing a used sponge onto the cushion and then onto my skin like quite unhygienic so I have to wash my sponge after every use, and washing and drying can be time consuming and the sponge will take some time to dry. So end up I use my powder foundation more often than bb cushion. I was curious when I saw this cute Heme Baby Q transparent puff and that it can last up to 10 years!!

TA DA!! MY new cute Heme Baby Qtansparent puff fitting nicely in my Laneige bb cushion case. By the way, its a silicone puff which has a cute smiley face imprinted on the surface and its shape designed like a tear drop which can fit all BB cushion cases.

So does it work?
It does pick up the liquid foundation from the BB cushion when i dab it onto the cushion and it does apply fairly well. Can use its chin to apply on wider surface like my forehead and its tip on hard to reach corner like sides of nose and under the eye areas. Able to spread and dab like a normal sponge but won’t have to waste product as it won’t get absorbed into this silicone puff. I also tried applying compact blusher using this Heme transparent puff, it does not seem to pick up the powder easily. For applying compact blusher, using a brush will be a better option I find.

After using I immediately wash it using a cleansing oil and dry with a piece of tissue paper and it can be thoroughly cleansed and dried within less than 1 min and put in the zip lock bag that comes with it or into the cushion case. How convenient and hygienic it can be.. Really a genius product!! (Compared to my MAC 187 brush, Sigma F80 brush and beauty blender, I like it for its ease of cleansing as it is the easiest to clean and dry after each use)

If you are buying one of these cuties, do take note that there are fake baby Q transparent puffs. The packaging of the fake Heme baby Q transparent puff seem to be in a darker shade of pink compared to the authentic one sold by Yuyu SG who is the exclusive distributor and reseller of Heme products here in Singapore.

There is also another newer design – Bac Bac’s Diary Baby Q. Be it smiley face or cute bear bear design, these are cute aren’t? Although each puff is not cheap (around $10), it can last at least a few years and really is more hygienic as we can wash and immediately wipe dry after each use!
To find out more about these cute silicone puffs or you cant wait to lay your hands on one of these cute yet hygienic puffs, can check out Yuyu SG's page on Qoo10 - they are the exclusive distributor and reseller of Heme products in Singapore, so rest assured that you are buying the authentic product!

Any Successful Treatments for Sebaceous Hyperplasia?

I used to like my skin but not anymore ... In fact now I feel very depressed whenever I look into the mirror. I am suffering from a skin disorder called Sebaceous Hyperplasia which is benign over-growth of normal oil glands (sebaceous glands) of the skin.

These bumps are skin-colored and have a central opening that looks super obvious since they are not flat but appear like some irritating pimples which I am unable to pop. I have visited the renowned DRx Medical Aesthetic Clinic about 2 or 3 years ago and had gone through 2 sessions of CO2 laser treatment with them (done by the friendly and pretty Dr. Yanni)  but the treatments did not help at all. I spent at least $500-$600 (including products) at DRx yet I cannot see any obvious results :(

Just wondering if anyone of you out there has any recommendation of a good dermatologist or skin clinic in Singapore that can help me get rid of these ugly bumps from my skin. Or perhaps if anyone of you out there can share your success cases of how you get rid of Sebaceous Hyperplasia using your secret home remedies. I would be grateful.

My First Mucota Dyna Argan Oil Hair Treatment Review (DIY)

I have heard many good reviews about Mucota products (Aire series, especially Aire 10) as well as Mucota Dyna Hair Treatment. So today I am going to try out Mucota Dyna Hair Treatment (The Do-IT-Yourself Method).

These are 4 products in Mucota Dyna Series.

DYNA CCA (yellow pack): Changes the hair texture, gives hair a sleek and glossy finish.
DYNA CAT (blue pack): To relax curly or color-damaged hair, leaves hair soft and natural finish.
DYNA CA (green pack): To maintain the hair straightness and softness in a natural finish.
DYNA AFTER (pink pack): To moisturize the hair and deodorizing effect.

After reading a few reviews and also enquired with the sellers of Mucota Dyna products, I bought this duo (CAT and AFTER) from Dreambook E-store on Qoo10. Got a seller suggested me CCA (yellow pack), but I chose CAT (blue pack) as it seem that most hair stylists used this on their clients.

Directions of use (from Mucota.co.jp website):
However I did not follow exactly the same steps as shown above.
Instead, I started by using Mucota Aire 1 shampoo (without using any conditioner) then towel dry my hair and apply DYNA CAT. I left it on for 30 minutes including application time. Then I rinsed off, blow dry my hair and use my Panasonic Hair Straightener EH-HS95 Hair Straightener at 180 Degree Celsius to seal off the treatment. I applied DYNA AFTER and left it on for 20 minutes including application time. Finally, I rinsed my hair and blow dry.

Have to say it was quite difficult and messy to apply the cream onto my hair as I cannot really see the back of my hair. Sectioning of my hair using the clips was also not easy. Think to do a good job requires one to coat the products evenly onto each strand of hair and must know when to rinse off. I don’t know how to check the softness of my hair (think need to do a pull test) when the first cream (DYNA CAT) was applied. My timing was also inaccurate. By the time I finished applying the product to the second side of my hair, I was worried that I have exceeded the processing time on the first side of hair that explains the time I took at the 2 stages in which the two creams were applied.

So how are the results??

*Above after pictures were taken after I washed off DYNA AFTER, and blow dry my hair, without further using a hair straightener.

After washing off DYNA CAT and blow drying my hair, I could actually feel that my hair was already soft and smooth. My natural curls seem to straighten as well. The end result was not too bad (not super flat type) considering that I did this Mucota Dyna hair treatment by myself (with no experience and hands that do not coordinate well). Seriously it is not easy to apply the products evenly onto my hair when I cannot see the back. My hair is now quite soft and smooth although some parts may be uneven. If I have done this Mucota Dyna Hair Treatment at a hair salon, the result will be 100x better and certainly more even.
Mucota Products are worth the hype!!
I am going to get their conditioner, hair mask and the super popular Aire 10 leave-in conditioner.

Update 3 February 2017
Just before Chinese New Year, I brought my Mucota Dyna set to a hair salon which offers Mucota Dyna treatment and the hair stylists said for my hair condition I should be using DYNA CCA so that hair wont be so flat after treatment. The hair stylist said DYNA CAT could still be used on my hair, just that he will need to adjust the treatment time. The effect was way better and evenly straightened when a professional did the whole treatment for me. It just took less than 10 minutes for the hair stylist to apply each cream to my hair. For my hair condition, he said the treatment time for DYNA CAT and DYNA AFTER should be 15 minutes and 10 minutes respectively.

Anyway, I also bought Mucota Aire 10 recently and have been using for a few weeks. After trying it, I know why Aire 10 is one of the most popular hair care products in the Aire range - its works in leaving my hair soft and smooth without the greasy effect. Highly recommended to try Mucota Aire 10 if you have straight hair (If you have permed or wavy hair, then check out Mucota Aire 9) - I am using Aire 10 prior to blow drying my hair (as a heat protector) and it also double up as a leave-in conditioner. I got all my Mucota products from a Japanese company (Dreambook E-store) from Qoo10, and their prices are very reasonable and they provide free shipping if you spend more than S$40. But if you are going to buy just a bottle of Mucota Aire 10, it will cost a total of S$22.90 including S$3 shipping fee. Pretty reasonable right? Delivery takes about 5 to 7 working days as the item(s) will be shipped directly from Japan.

*P.S. if you are considering to DIY this Mucota Dyna hair treatment, better to ask someone to help you out or ask your hair stylist friend for help. Its really not easy to manage by yourself and the timing to wash the products off also require experience.

Reviews: Kat Von D Lock-it Powder Foundation & Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Brush

Kat Von D Lock-it Powder Foundation

Description of product:
Day or night and everything in between, this budge-proof foundation promises flawless coverage around the clock. The buildable formula evens the complexion and hides imperfections—all without the need for touch-ups. Smudge- and sweat-proof, this foundation won’t cake or crease and the velvety texture wears with a breathable, light touch.

Full Ingredients List of Kat Von D Lock-it Powder Foundation:

Shades Available:

Kat Von D Lock-it Powder Foundation comes in wide range of 18 shades from very light, medium to deep shades with selection of neutral, cool or warm undertones.

Packaging:

It comes in Kat Von D's trademark black and silver design with the initial KVD embossed in the middle of the front cover. It is gorgeous looking and seems sturdy. There is a mirror inside the compact case and also a sponge that is housed in a separate compartment (right below the foundation). There is no refill for this product as it is sold as a whole (the foundation is attached to the compact case)

Dimensions of the case:
Approximately 70mm (diameter) and 20mm (thickness)

Contents: 30ml

Price: S$53

Swatches for Light 45:

I chose the shade Light 45 for light complexion with yellow undertone. My skin tone is medium fair. I was quite indecisive in choosing the shade- Light 44 and Light 45 look pretty similar but in the end I decided to choose a yellow based foundation. (For reference, I use C3 for MAC Studio Fix powder, NC25 for Studio Fix Liquid Foundation and Shade 21 for Laneige BB cushion).

Texture: The powder is lightweight and has a buttery soft texture making application a breeze.

Coverage: I find that this foundation offers a medium to full coverage if I use the sponge that is included in the compact. For a no makeup look (or to create the illusion of flawless skin), I will apply the foundation using a powder brush. This method allows buildable coverage for a natural look.

Smell: None. There is no fragrance used in the making of this foundation. No fanciful smell for sure.

Lasting Effect: This foundation is pretty lasting on my combination skin which tends to be more on the oily side. Normally after lunch time, I just need to touch up once after blotting with a piece of facial tissue and it will not look cakey.

My thoughts:

I like the fact that this foundation is formulated without parabens and free of mineral oil, paraffin and fragrance. The finish is matt and it gives a natural-looking medium coverage when I apply it using the sponge provided, as shown in the above picture (on the right). The shade 45 is a perfect match for my skin tone. To test the coverage of the foundation, I did not use any concealer before applying this powder foundation. It is able to reduce the redness around my nose area and even out my skin tone. As for my serious dark undereye problem, I would need to apply a concealer first. It also has a wide range of shades which cater to very fair to deeper skin tones. It would be great if this powder foundation has SPF in it to give sun protection against the harmful UV rays.

Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Brush

Description of product:

This unique, dual-ended eye shadow brush is designed just for eye contouring—a groundbreaking technique once used only by makeup pros to define and enhance eyes. This set contains an eye contour brush and a brush case.

The tapered Shade end is uniquely shaped to precisely sweep on shadow exactly where you want it. I use it to apply eye shadow on the outer "V" or outer corners of my eyes, and it gives precise application. It can also be used to soften/ smudge my pencil liner on my lash line, so that the liner won't appear so harsh.

The Light end blends and softens product without removing pigment—creating a natural-looking, contoured eye look. I like how fluffy yet dense it is. This domed shape bristles is ideal for application and blending.

My thoughts:

Both ends of this brush are ultra-soft and dense. Although the bristles are synthetic, powder can be easily picked up and blending is a breeze. It can also be used to apply under eye concealer and to eliminate all traces of a blemish. Before using this brush, I washed both ends with a mild baby shampoo and there was no shedding of the bristles at all.

One unique thing about this brush is that it comes with a sleek, hard coffin case to keep the dual ended brush protected at home or while on the go. I really like it so much that I got 2 of them, one for home’s use and another to carry on the go..

My Very Bad Experience with Philips Air Fryer HD9220 - Will it Cause Cancer?

I am sure by now many households would have a Philips AirFryer at home - Who doesn't like the idea of frying without using oil? I was one of the many who was impressed with this technology back in 2014 and had bought 2 units of the popular Philips AirFryers namely HD 9220 and HD9230 in one month.

The model which I used more frequently is the one with the manual knob HD9220 (the digital version HD9230 I rarely use, think I only used less than 8 times within 2 years so its not that bad as compared to my HD9220). Please read below to see how bad my Philips HD9220 is now..

Actually barely 2 weeks after I bought my HD9220 Airfryer, I already encountered a very terrible incident - I got a burnt ashy cracker when I tried to fry a piece of cracker. I still remember that there was a smelly ashy smoke emitting from the Airfryer when the incident took place.

The metal heater (coil) above the container has been burnt (see above picture) and the cracker was almost turned into ash. I was worried that there might be harmful particles on the heater and above it, we wont know what is in the area since we are not able to remove the parts. I contacted Philips Singapore back then for a one-to -one exchange since it was less than 3 weeks from purchase date and my third time using it, but they did not do so. Instead they offered to do a replacement of the heater (coil) and took my burnt cracker for investigation. Pretty terrible incident so I guess everyone should learn a lesson that not every thing can be air-fried!

What could be worst than having a burnt ashy cracker when using the Philips AirFryer?? Read on...

Let me show you some pictures of the current state of my AirFryer HD9220...

This picture of the heater was taken when I put my AirFryer upside down. Super disgusting right???

In the past few weeks, I had tried contacting Philips Singapore via their customer service hotline, email and even via their facebook. I wanted to know how much they would charge if I were to send in my AirFryer for cleaning. They could not give me a definite answer and said they do not provide such cleaning service. One of the customer service officers emailed me a soft copy of their quick cleaning guide which was not helpful. The staff manning their facebook sent me a youtube video on how to clean my AirFryer and subsequently said they will forward my case to the relevant department.

Then a few days later, I received another email from them informing me that the internal part of the airfryer can be cleaned by following the instruction (in word document) that they attached with the email.

So how to clean the internal part of the Philips AirFryer?

Below are the print screen of the instructions that they sent me.
Have to say the above instruction is easier to follow compared to the soft copy of their quick cleaning guide which was provided in their first email.

I went to buy a new spray bottle and a bottle of baking powder, naively thinking that these two items may end my misery. I finally have the time to try out all the steps (No. 1 to 19) earlier but it did not work at all. In fact I could see more burnt carbon residue surrounding the heater (coil) and also underneath the heater. So after making one big round, all the instructions provided were useless.

After wasting more than 1hr 30mins to clean my Philips HD9220 AirFryer, it is still as disgusting as before. The carbon built up cannot be totally cleaned without dismantling the internal heater (coil) and parts. For now, I do not dare to use this Philips AirFryer anymore because of health concern - the thick layer of carbon residue could jolly well lead to cancer!!

By the way, did I mention that I hate the design of the basket that comes with this wired mesh base? It rust easily and it is so difficult to clean. I am sure Philips is aware of this problem that is why in the newer models, they came up with quick clean basket with a removable metal cover and honeycomb base. (Yes, it now comes with a cover, cause I think I am not the only one facing the above problem. Without a proper cover, it will cause more grease and carbon built up on the heater (coil) when the air is being circulated in the AirFryer). Unfortunately, Philips HD9220 AirFryer is still selling in the market although price has dropped significantly over the past 2 years.

All I can say is please think twice if you are considering to buy this model or the digital version of this model (HD9220 & HD9230). Internally they are the same - yes same difficult to wash basket without covers, just that the HD9220 has a knob and a dialer to set the time and temperature, whereas the latter has a digital panel.

I have bought many Philips products in the past since it is a local brand and their products have nice designs but this selling-like-hotcakes Philips AirFryer and the after sales- service is a total disappointment. Next time I would think twice when buying a Philips product!

Thanks for reading till the end of the post. I hope that this post gives you an insight of what your Philips HD9220 AirFryer will become/ look like after using it for some time.

Update 4 September 2016:

I did mention earlier that I have 2 sets of Philips AirFryers, the other one is HD9230 which I hardly used -less than 8 times throughout 2 years and I only used it to airfry only frozen nuggets and hashbrowns, nothing else.

And this is how the heater/coil part looks like:

There is still grease and residue beneath the coil even though it is rarely used, so I performed the 19 steps cleaning procedure on this set.

And after 1 hour and 30mins..

This is how it looks!! Even worst now have baking powder residue which is hard to remove at the hard to reach area beneath the heater/coil. I even cut my finger while trying to remove the white residue by the side of heater/coil as it is stuck in between a very hard to reach gap.

OUCH!! So unlucky me!!! The 19-step cleaning procedure that Philips Singapore provided me did not even work on a rarely used and pretty clean airfryer. Seriously there is no way for us to clean thoroughly the area beneath and surrounding the heater/coil without taking it out!!

Now I am stuck with 2 sets of Philips Airfryers which I am unable to use !!

There is really a serious design problem with Philips Airfryers! Should make it in such a way that allow users to clean all parts easily and safely. The basket with the wired mesh base is badly designed- just so difficult to wash after each use and it will rust easily!

Update 27 September 2016:

I sent my 2 sets of Philips Air Fryers for repair and collected both sets yesterday- they were able to clean them by replacing the respective heater (coil) afterall. If the condition of your heater is like my HD9220, the spare part(s) will cost $91 and if the condition is minor like that of my HD9230, then the spare part(s) will cost $25.

Although the heaters of both sets have been replaced. I am angry and heart pain that they purposely damaged the silver area just above the silver handle. It looks as if someone was trying to pry the silver part off the air fryer, as it was evidenced with a mark. And horrorified when I saw that there was a cut just below the silver part resulting it from dropping off if I touch it. I did not inspect both my Air fryers inch by inch but zoom right into the heaters of both Air Fryers.. BUT WHY DID THEY HAVE TO PURPOSELY DAMAGE THE SET WHICH I USED LESS THAN 8 TIMES???

I just have to say I have lost the least bit of confidence in Philips Products! Please buy it at your own risk!

Update 30 September 2016

2 days ago, I went back to Philips Singapore Service Centre to let them have a look at the chipped part above the silver handle of my HD9230 and it took them more than 1 hr 30mins to return my set saying that they had fixed it!!  Guess what they returned me?

They simply removed the silver knob and sticked it onto another used set which has rusty heater (coil), they even went to the extend of peeling my original label and sticked it onto this used set.  I was so pissed off and told them that the set presented to me wasn't mine.  As it was 6.20pm then,  (their closing time was 6pm),  they issued my a job sheet and said they would have to take in my set for repair again.

And the next morning I received a call from one of the customer service officers informing me that my set has already been repaired.  So I went down to the service centre the 3rd time to collect my set thinking this nightmare would end..  In my mind I thought they would have make sure everything is in place as they do not want to see me again for the 7th time but it did not happen the way I expected..

The set that I collected today was mine (with a new heater coil replaced),  I believe they did change the top casing with another used set as there were scratched marks at the edges but there was nothing much I can do.. And as I was about to accept the set,  I saw a HORRIFYING thing -  my original label was missing!!!  The staff later told me that the technician repairing my set has resigned the previous day and they could not find the set which they had pasted my original label on.  — how co-incidence this can be.

YOU CANNOT IMAGINE HOW ANGRY I WAS AT THAT MOMENT AND EVEN NOW AS I AM TYPING THIS POST!  I doubt they will ever find my label back...
